It was founded in the 17th century and it is an island blessed by 42 beaches, out-of-the-way villages, pretty lakes and cozy bars. One rarely traverses the city, north to south, without coming across frequent surprises. The island is famous by its natural beauties, its young atmosphere and sports (surfing, paragliding, biking, etc). It is a huge island, extremely well developed.
Florianópolis is better appreciated during summer, from November to March, and is ideal for young people or couples of any age that wants to party and enjoy nice beaches. During Carnival and New Years Eve the island gets packed and the traffic can get annoying, although nobody seems to care about it.
It is a must see attraction if one is visiting the southern portion of Brazil.
